In the world of SEO positioning there are words that everyone should know, and without a doubt two of them are page authority and domain authority. In this article I want to talk to you about authority on the internet, so that you know what factors are taken into account and some ways to improve your value.

It is an indicator, developed by the famous SEOMoz tool, which indicates the quality and credibility of a domain, as a whole. The higher the value, the easier it will be for this domain to position new content, with ratings ranging from 1, lowest value, to 100.

We must understand that domain authority is the quality of all pages as a whole, and that within a domain there will be pages with more authority than others. For example, the contact page, or the cookie policy should always have a lower authority than that of the home page or that of the main services of the company.

At this point I want to share with you some ways to improve the domain authority of your website.

  • Getting links: links are everything in the world of SEO and a backlink strategy will help us enormously to position ourselves. The more varied the source of the links, that is, the more pages that link to you, and the better authority those pages have, the better. It is important that the page with the most links is always the home page, otherwise Google could become suspicious.
  • Content Marketing: the more content a website has, the more keywords it can position, and therefore more traffic it will be able to attract. Blog articles are a perfect strategy to increase the content of your website, and incidentally position secondary keywords and increase the authority of your website.
  • Cleaning of links: not all the links that point to our website are positive and provide us, but sometimes it is interesting, and important, to delete them. If for example you are linked from a page that has been penalized or with a theme that is not to your liking, you can ask Google to remove those links.   • Internal structure: having a correct structure on your website will not only be rewarded by search engines, but users will thank you for offering perfectly organized content. It is important that your entire website is connected to each other, and that the menu items are the most linked below the home page. In addition, all pages must have internal, outgoing and incoming links, and external links.
  • Mentions on social networks: indeed, although many people do not believe it, mentions on social networks do influence SEO positioning. Through social networks you must share the content of your website, such as blog articles for example or your services.

  • Web usability and user experience: for search engines a determining factor is user behavior. The longer they are on your website, the better evaluation they will have. For this, it is important to have good web usability and an optimal user experience.

The authority is transmitted from page to page through the links, and that transmitted authority is known as “linkjuice”. This expression is used because of the most famous example to explain the transmission of domain or page authority.

Let’s understand that a website is actually a juice, to which we make a series of holes, which would be the links. The more holes / links a web has the less juice will go through each hole. That’s why it’s important to search for pages with few outgoing links, to make the most of your domain authority.

Increasing the value of our domain authority is complicated, and time consuming. Also, not surprisingly, it is much easier to go from 10 to 20 than from 60 to 70, so don’t worry. Don’t be discouraged by having low authority, but compare it with the rest of the sector, with your competition.
